FLW look at Marti Cifuentes' QPR spell as West Brom eye the Spaniard.
West Bromwich Albion's vacant managerial position has quickly come to the fore with Queens Park Rangers' Marti Cifuentes holding talks with the Hawthorns outfit.
This is according to Sky Sports, although it is understood that discussions haven't yet reached the point where formal permission has been requested via QPR.
This news came following The Sun's report that the Spaniard was growing unhappy at Loftus Road and that he was considering stepping down from his role as head coach due to a breakdown in relations with Chief Executive Christian Nourry.
The Baggies had recently departed with head coach Tony Mowbray, who was only appointed as recently as January. In total, he won just five of his 17 matches as Albion's play-off push collapsed in dramatic fashion.
Cifuentes would offer a fresh face at The Hawthorns and, while QPR have only achieved two mid-table finishes under his leadership, there have been plenty of promising signs.
With this in mind, Football League World have taken a closer look at his time with the Hoops and how his win percentage compares, as West Brom consider him for their new head coach role.
Cifuentes was originally appointed by QPR near the beginning of the 2023-24 season as a woeful start to the campaign under Gareth Ainsworth put the Hoops deep in trouble.
While it took him a while to settle in, post-January his side were superb and victories against the likes of Leeds United and Leicester City alongside a string of wins had them optimistic heading into 2024-25.
Unfortunately, their start to this season followed a familiar pattern and, although a brilliant run of form midway through the campaign had them flying again, a poor 2025 ultimately ended any hopes of a play-off push.
With one game remaining, they sit 15th on 53 points and could match their 2023–24 total if they secure a win against Sunderland on the final day.
The fixture against the Black Cats will be his 83rd match in charge, and his previous 82 games have produced a record of 28 wins, 23 draws and 31 defeats. Overall, this equates to a points-per-game average of 1.30, which, across a full season, would typically earn around 60 points - a mid-table return at best.
His 28 wins from 82 fixtures give him a win percentage of 34%, typically delivering a victory every three games.
The Spaniard’s time in West London has been characterised by inconsistency, with strong spells of form often undermined by disappointing runs in the league.
Should he make the move to West Brom, a higher level of expectation will undoubtedly be placed on him, with Albion supporters demanding a push for promotion or, at the very least, a play-off finish. For a team targeting this level of success, inconsistency just isn't a consideration and Cifuentes will have to refine his points-per-game to a level prepared for this.
The 42-year-old has certainly shown glimpses of his potential at Loftus Road, and turning that into more consistent performances will be crucial if he makes the move to Albion.
