It was reported by Football Insider on Friday that the Tractor Boys are willing to offer the West Ham forward an 18 month deal in a bid to fend off interest from Everton and the Glasgow outfit.

The striker has fallen out of favour at the London outfit, and is set to have his contract terminated in order to facilitate a move away from the club this month.

Wilson has made 17 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, contributing four goals and one assist amid West Ham’s fight against relegation to the Championship.

However, he was absent for their last two games, a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest and a 2-1 win over QPR in the FA Cup, and he’s only started on eight occasions in the league since joining the Hammers in the summer.

O’Neill, who has been installed as Celtic manager in recent weeks, has claimed that the club are searching for someone to add goals to the squad this month.

However, he’s indicated that a deal to sign Wilson is not on the cards, suggesting that the 33-year-old has already agreed to move somewhere else when his contract is terminated.

“We are in search of those elusive goal scorers, but we’re not the only team as well,” said O’Neill, as reported by Anthony Joseph on X.

“On a serious note, no I can’t tell you anything but we are — is it becoming my favourite phrase? — we are making progress.

“I hadn’t thought about that, not that he’s not a very, very fine, a very fine player, but I thought he was going elsewhere.”

Ipswich are in contention for promotion to the Premier League this season, with the team sitting third in the Championship table.

Kieran McKenna’s side are two points behind second-place Middlesbrough, while also holding a game in hand on the Teesside outfit.

The Tractor Boys are seeking to return to the top flight at the first attempt, having come 19th in the table last season.

Next up for Ipswich is a home clash against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Callum Wilson signing looks possible for Ipswich Town after Martin O'Neill's Celtic update

Celtic would’ve been an interesting option for Wilson, especially as they are in need of consistent goals to turnaround their season now.

But these comments indicate that he won’t be moving to Parkhead, which will come as a boost for Ipswich, who are looking good in their race to bring in the 33-year-old.

An 18-month contract shows their commitment to him, as a player of his age and with his fitness record may struggle to get a deal beyond this season for now.

Wilson’s record at West Ham this season has been positive despite the team’s poor results, so there’s no doubt he could contribute to a promotion push this term, provided he remains fit.
