A draw for Nuno’s West Ham against Crystal Palace on Monday night confirmed Wolves’ relegation to the Championship.
The Midlands club had seemed resigned to dropping out of the Premier League, although an early-year upturn briefly raised hopes. Defeats to West Ham and Leeds then left them vulnerable before the Palace result settled it.
Nuno is Wolves’ most successful Premier League-era head coach. He took charge of 199 matches with a win rate just under 48 per cent. After winning the Championship, he delivered seventh place in the next two seasons and a Europa League quarter final, before leaving for Spurs.
“Of course, of course, of course (it’s something that upsets me). I feel for them. I wish them all the best. They are a giant club and for sure they are going to go back to good days.” He told Sky Sports.
He voiced sympathy and backed the club to return to better times.
