Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé was keen to make clear his appreciation for the talents of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal on Monday night.
This, of course, fresh off the former pipping Lamine to the crown of world football’s best player.
The annual Ballon d’Or ceremony took place in France’s capital of Paris yesterday evening.
The headline prize of the night, as had long been common knowledge across the media, came down to two players, in Lamine, and Ousmane Dembélé.
The latter was ultimately crowned ‘Golden Ball’ winner, just rewards for leading PSG to a first-ever Champions League title.
Lamine, just 18, was in turn left to watch on in disappointment from the front row at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
Dembélé, in turn, made use of the opportunity to send a message of encouragement the way of Barcelona’s wing sensation.
During his award acceptance speech, the Frenchman explained:
“It was very good competing with Lamine Yamal. We’ve all seen him play all season, he’s extraordinary. I think he’s going to be winning a lot of trophies like the Ballon D’Or. It was a great battle.”
