The 29-year-old spent seven years with the Royals, making over 150 league appearances in that time.

The forward scored over 40 goals across six league campaigns, but departed following the club’s relegation from the Championship.

Meite made the switch to Cardiff City, where he spent two seasons, before again moving after a relegation to League One.

The Ivory Coast international is now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, signing for Damac in the summer, where he has so far made three league appearances.

Meite has responded to a supporter on X to suggest that he could be the next former Reading player to return to the club following Andy Rinomhota’s signing.

He’s claimed that he wants to come back some day, opening the door for a similar comeback to the 28-year-old.

“One day [I’ll] be back for sure,” he replied, via X.

Meite was a popular figure at Reading during his time at the club, particularly for his performances when the team fought for promotion to the Premier League.

The forward contributed 12 goals and one assist during the 2020/21 campaign, with the Berkshire outfit finishing seventh in the Championship table.

The Royals missed out on a play-off place by seven points, and were relegated to League One just two years later.

Reading are still competing in the third tier, and have struggled for form so far this season.

The team are currently 17th in the table after 15 games played, having earned 18 points, and are only three clear of the relegation zone.

Next up for Leam Richardson’s side is a home clash against Rotherham United on 22 November in a 3pm kick-off.

Yakou Meite return would certainly be welcome at Reading

Meite would be a popular figure in this Reading team, and fans will be hoping that his return comes sooner rather than later.

The Royals could use someone with his firepower in their attack as they look to climb the League One table under Richardson.

He moved to Saudi Arabia last summer, and it remains to be seen how long he will remain there, but a return to England in the future would certainly make a lot of sense given how much of his career he spent in the Championship.
