When Will the Liverpool Premier League Trophy Parade Be Held?

There are scores of football fans who believe that they have some sort of mystical power over the universe. In spite of the fact that they are in jobs they hate or can’t get into a relationship or never win the lottery, when it comes to football they believe they have the power to control the outcome of a game with lucky underpants.

They will hate reading about a trophy parade for a title that hasn’t been won yet, but that’s exactly what this article is about….

We Will Win the Title

As things currently stand, Liverpool sit 12 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. If Arsenal were to win all nine of their remaining games, which is extremely unlikely when you consider that they haven’t won four games in a row in the top-flight all season, then the Reds would need 16 more points to secure the title in its own right and 15 to win it on goal difference. Given the fact that the club’s goal difference is currently 13 better than Arsenal’s, it is unlikely that it is going to be a factor come the end of the season.

Add in the fact that Liverpool have no other competition to worry about and the Gunners are still in the Champions League, needing to prioritise their games against Real Madrid with matches against Everton, Brentford and Ipswich Town either side, it is difficult to see how the London side will be able to go on the sort of run that will allow them to overturn our current lead. Yes, teams have lost the Premier League with 12-point leads in the past, but never with so few games left to play before the race is run. We are winning the title.

Parade Likely to be on Monday May 26th

Whilst Liverpool’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was frustrating and disappointing, it does at least mean that we know when the title parade is likely to be. The final game of the season is on the 25th of May, 20 years to the day that the Reds defeated AC Milan in that incredible Champions League final in 2005 that was labelled as the Miracle of Istanbul.

Crystal Palace will be the visiting team, arriving at Anfield in the knowledge that they will be there for one of the biggest parties the city has seen in years.

If you’re worried about having to get time off work in order to go along to the bus parade then fear not: the 26th of May this year is a bank holiday. Obviously that won’t be a thing for everyone, with the self-employed being a good example of those who don’t get the joy of a bank holiday, but for everyone else you can head along to the parade safe in the knowledge that it won’t matter if your boss sees you on TV. Given the global health crisis of 2020, May 25th will be the first time people will be present inside Anfield for the trophy presentation since 1990.

What Will the Parade Be Like?

It is fair to say that Liverpool supporters are incredibly lucky, having had ample opportunity to hit the streets of the city and celebrate their team’s achievements.

Although we didn’t get to do it when the title was won at the end of the 2019-2020 season, with the majority of people obeying the lockdown rules that were in place at the time, we did get to line up alongside the Strand and other parts of town a year earlier when Jürgen Klopp and his men won the Champions League at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur.

There was also a parade two years later, which should’ve been to celebrate a quadruple but ultimately wasn’t.

In spite of the Reds missing out on the Premier League by a single point for the second time in the sports-washing era of Manchester City, who face 130 charges of financial impropriety, as well as losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid, the double of the League Cup and FA Cup was enough for the players to hit the open-top bus and parade their trophies around the city. This, though, is likely to be on another level than either 2019 or 2022, thanks to the fact that we didn’t get to celebrate in 2020.

Around 750,000 turned out in 2019 to welcome home the European Cup, with the number being closer to the half-a-million mark three years later. It wouldn’t be a shock if more than a million people cheered on the title winners this time around. Whilst one cheeky scamp launched a petition to have the title parade moved to London, Liverpool will be a sea of red on the 26th of May. Radio 1’s Big Weekend is being held at Sefton Park on the three days prior, so the atmosphere in the city is likely to be absolutely off the charts.
