Leeds United’s hunt for attacking quality this summer could lead them to Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, who is available on a free. A move is being explored and club figures expect competition, including at least one Champions League suitor.

Born in Bremen, Brandt played for SC Borgfeld and FB Oberneuland before joining Wolfsburg’s academy. Bayer Leverkusen signed him in January 2014 for about €350,000, gave him a first pro deal at 17, and he debuted the following month.

Across six seasons at Leverkusen he made 215 appearances, delivering 42 goals and 52 assists, and earned a Bundesliga Team of the Season place in his final campaign. Dortmund bought him for €25m in 2019 and he has been a regular since.

He has played 307 times for Dortmund with 57 goals and 70 assists, adding another Team of the Season in 2022/23. Brandt won the DFB Pokal and helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final, and has 48 Germany caps with three goals.

A technically gifted No.10 who can also play wide or centrally, he has hit double-figure goal contributions in each of the last five Bundesliga seasons, including seven goals and 12 assists in 32 games in 2023/24.

It was confirmed in March that his Dortmund contract would not be renewed, giving him time to weigh options. Leeds expect rival offers. “Let yourself be surprised. There are many ideas, not every idea is good, but there are many ideas.” He told Sky Germany.
