Olympique de Marseille are at risk of exclusion from European football for next season. Back in 2022, OM came to an agreement with UEFA regarding financial fair play, which had not been respected. In meetings with authorities this week, the Ligue 1 club can – and will – highlight the drastic effect of the decline in TV rights revenue in French football.
UEFA won’t announce their decision until the end of the week, however, Marseille could face severe sanctions, up to and including expulsion from European competition for next season. Habib Beye’s side finished fifth in Ligue 1, ensuring their qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
However, should OM be excluded from the competition by the authorities, it is AS Monaco and RC Strasbourg Alsace who would stand to benefit. It would see the Principality club bumped up from the UEFA Europa Conference League into the Europa League, whilst Le Racing, who missed out on all forms of European football, would take ASM’s UECL spot.
