Adam Armstrong will be available for Wolves’ FA Cup tie against Grimsby Town this weekend after a change to the competition’s cup-tied rules. Per ExpressAndStar.com, players can now represent two clubs in the same FA Cup season.

Armstrong had already appeared, coming on in the 87th minute in Southampton’s 3-2 third-round win over Doncaster last month. Under the previous rules he would have been ineligible.

The revised regulation allows two appearances across different clubs, either split between qualifying and the main rounds or both in the competition proper. Similar changes also apply in the Carabao Cup this season.

The 29-year-old joined Wolves from Southampton on deadline day in a deal worth up to £9 million. He recorded an assist on debut in the home defeat to Chelsea.

He started on the left before moving centrally after a tactical reshuffle, linking with Tolu Arokodare and setting up Wolves’ goal.

Signed with next season in mind, his arrival comes with Wolves at risk of relegation. His top-flight record is six goals and eight assists in 89 games, while in the Championship he has 91 goals and 37 assists in 277.

Head coach Rob Edwards said Armstrong is hungry to prove people wrong, has admired him for a long time and is delighted with the signing.
