On New year's Eve, we attempt to explain why everyone seems to concur that Leicester City have improved. These assumption and assessments might perhaps appear nonsensical to people who are all too aware of the Foxes' current plight. Suggesting a floundering team is in fact stable is a seemingly strange stance to hold.
LCFC has not won in five top flight attempts, which is alarming. The negating form occurred since drawing with Brighton & Hove Albion at home. That result came directly after defeating West Ham United 3-1, also at King Power Stadium. The east Midlands team has actually suffered four successive Premier League defeats.
However, this recent run of matches was particularly difficult to navigate for the Leicestershire outfit. Manchester City, although a changed and downgraded group at present, were a test. Travelling to Anfield is never easy - at all! And the Foxes also faced new manager bounces and better placed EPL clubs.
But none of this alters the fact that Leicester have been consistently losing games. So why are the Blue Army, along with journalists and current stars, suggesting that City are getting better? Why does optimism prevail in the face of peril?
Though they were beaten, and beaten well, Leicester gave good accounts of themselves against Man City and Liverpool. I thought Leicester could have pushed the Citizens further in that particular game. If Vardy did manage to score at some point, I think the outcome would have changed.
LCFC players kept the ball better in the latest fixture. They were also more composed and combative than usual in the MCFC and LFC contests. Something felt positive or manifested versus the Reds as well. Even in defeat, pride and belief were prevalent. That's pretty much all us fans ask for! Although, Ruud van Nistelrooy's job remains burdensome.
