Arkadiusz Milik hasn’t played a competitive Juventus game for over a year, so why have the Bianconeri extended his contract to 2027?
Juventus announced Milik’s contract extension on Wednesday.
“Juventus has reached an agreement to extend the contract of Arkadiusz Milik until 30 June 2027,” the Bianconeri said on X.
Milik’s previous agreement was due to expire in June 2026, and the Poland international has been out of action for nearly a year due to recurring injuries.
Milik even missed the Euros with his national team last summer after playing his last competitive game with Juventus on May 25, 2024, against Monza.
The former Napoli and Marseille forward underwent meniscus surgery in June 2024 and an arthroscopic suturing of the medial meniscal residue of his left knee the following October.
A recent muscle injury has prevented him from making a single appearance in the 2024-25 campaign.
Tuttomercatoweb explains that Juventus have spread Milik’s €4.8m-a-year gross salary over two seasons, lowering their wage bill and possibly making it easier for him to leave in the summer with a €1.7m-a-year net salary.
Milik’s lower wages could attract more clubs during the summer transfer window, even though his fitness level will need to be tested after spending a year without competitive football.
Milik reacted to his contract extension with an Instagram story, in which he wrote, “The journey continues. I can’t wait to return to the pitch.”
Juventus’ next games
The Serie A giants will now focus on the pitch with four games remaining in the Serie A. The next two are against direct rivals Bologna and Lazio, both away, and both without the suspended Kenan Yildiz, who has received a two-game ban after being given a straight red card in the latest Serie A match against Monza at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus sit fourth in the Serie A table, one point ahead of Bologna and two points ahead of Lazio.
