Lazio star Mario Gila is reportedly open to staying at the club, even though he has suitors among the European elite.
The Barcelona native first arrived in the Italian capital in the summer of 2022 when Maurizio Sarri was in charge. Although he played little in his first season at the Stadio Olimpico, the defender made large leaps under the guidance of the returning Lazio manager.
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Gila will relish his reunion with Sarri, as he believes the latter can help him reach new heights and establish himself as a genuine top defender. Therefore, the Spanish international would be happy to resist all offers and stay at Formello, despite the lack of European football.
The source names several European giants who are interested in the 24-year-old, beginning with the newly-crowned European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, who would offer him the chance to play under his compatriot, Luis Enrique.
The report also names Chelsea and Tottenham as alternative suitors, while his former club, Real Madrid, continues to monitor the situation, despite having signed Dean Huijsen recently. Los Blancos still have a 50% sell-on fee, which would translate into a discount if they were to buy him back.
It should be noted that Gila is considered one of the biggest assets at Lazio who might have to make some sacrifices on the market to fund their transfer campaign, especially after missing out on European football altogether. Hence, it remains to be seen if Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani will try to convince the defender to accept an offer and leave Rome.
