Inter’s leading goalscorer Marcus Thuram stopped by for a post-match chat with the CBS Sports team after Inter’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday night, where he explained why he calls pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards his ‘uncles’.

Thuram came off the bench as a second-half substitute during Inter’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal at San Siro, as Simone Inzaghi went with a strike partnership of Mehdi Taremi and Lautaro Martinez this time around.

The France international discussed a number of topics while on the air with CBS, including Inter’s rotations and the challenge that Arsenal posed, but began by explaining why he refers to Thierry Henry as his ‘uncle’.

“I call Micah my uncle because he’s Thierry’s brother, and I call Thierry my uncle because he’s my dad’s brother,” he said, after another brief attempt at speaking Italian by former Fiorentina defender, Richards.

Thuram then went on to discuss how Inter could have got even more out of their victory against Arsenal.

“I think we would have wanted to control the game a bit more, but you know how it is with emotions when you win 1-0, the other team is pushing so you lower a bit. We would have liked to take the line a bit higher, but we had to concede a lot of crosses at the end, and stayed solid so we’re happy with the win.”

Inter rested several key players, including Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco and Nicolo Barella ahead of the top-of-the-table test against Serie A leaders Napoli in Serie A on Sunday.

“We don’t like to call it turnovers, because we are 23 good players that can play at any moment,” Thuram explained.

“Against Manchester City I played up front with Taremi and Lautaro was on the bench, and tonight it was me on the bench. We like to keep everyone involved. We know that we have a big game on Sunday, too, so it’s good to play all the players.”
