Liverpool are on the brink of confirming one of the most significant signings in their modern history, with Florian Wirtz set to be officially announced later this week.
The long-awaited move for the 22-year-old Germany international is nearing its conclusion, with Wirtz expected to fly to the UK later this week after his post-Euro 2024 holiday. According to The Athletic, his medical is pencilled in for Friday, and Liverpool are working to ensure that the deal is finalised by then.

While the timeline remains flexible, the goal is clear — to have Wirtz officially signed and unveiled before the end of the week. If all goes according to plan, Friday will mark the official announcement date, with Sky Germany confirming, “The announcement of the Florian Wirtz transfer is planned for Friday,” adding, “Everything is done and sealed – medical has been booked.”
Liverpool have already reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over a staggering €136.3 million (£116.5 million) package. This includes an initial €117.5 million (£100 million) and a further €18.8 million in performance-related add-ons.
Should those add-ons be activated, this could become a new British transfer record, surpassing the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo. It is also the most expensive deal in both Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen’s histories, underlining the scale and ambition of the project under Arne Slot.

Wirtz is set to sign a five-year contract that would see him tied to Anfield until the summer of 2030.
Wirtz is not the only arrival from Leverkusen this summer. Liverpool have already completed the signing of full-back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million, along with Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi for £1.5 million.

Work is ongoing to finalise a deal for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, with talks well advanced over a package in the region of £40–45 million.
Liverpool’s summer activity is set against the backdrop of notable exits. Trent Alexander-Arnold has completed a move to Real Madrid, while backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has joined Brentford.
As Wirtz’s official announcement date edges closer, Liverpool fans will be hoping the arrival of one of Europe’s most gifted young playmakers signals the dawn of a new era at Anfield.
