According to Globo.com, Palmeiras have set a club record for World Cup call-ups, yet none were selected by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil. Their representative within the Seleção is Sérgio Luís de Oliveira, known as Serginho, the team’s masseur.

Brazil open their campaign on Saturday against Morocco at 19:00. Serginho joined the national staff after the 2014 World Cup, stayed through Tite’s tenure and, after his departure, was kept on to assist Ancelotti.

He was the only Palmeiras representative in 2018. In 2022 goalkeeper Weverton joined him, as did analyst Lucas Oliveira.

Beyond the World Cup, he was part of the Olympic gold medal delegations in 2016 and 2020, and the 2019 Copa América winners. At Palmeiras since 1998, he has lifted almost every club title, including all the club’s Conmebol Libertadores titles in 1999, 2020 and 2021.

He began in Cotia with a third division club, then worked with Palmeiras’ women’s volleyball team and the national set-up before moving into youth football. Known for his warmth, he is admired across the Verdão squad.

Palmeiras have also presented gifts to their 2026 World Cup call-ups. The list includes three Paraguayans, Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio and Sosa, two Uruguayans, Emiliano Martínez and Piquerez, one Argentine, Flaco López, and one Colombian, Jhon Arias.
