Wolves have cancelled their pre-season trip to Heerenveen, replacing it with a Molineux friendly against Racing Santander on Saturday, 1 August, with a five pm kick-off.
The decision follows what the club viewed as unreasonable conditions imposed by the local authority. Fans would have had to use organised coaches from Amsterdam, with tickets limited to those coaches and attendance capped at 650.
With little flexibility for independent travel and no movement from officials, the stance created safety and operational concerns and the match was scrapped.
Director of football operations Matt Wild said the club were disappointed for travelling supporters, thanked Heerenveen for their cooperation, and argued the restrictions were not reasonable. He added that a home test against strong opposition was the right solution before the new Championship season.
Supporters with non-refundable bookings are encouraged to contact Fan Services to discuss their individual circumstances.
Racing Santander visit Molineux on the same day, fresh from promotion as La Liga Two champions in May. Ticket details will follow.
Cesar Peixoto’s squad return to Compton next week, then head to Portugal for a training camp. Friendlies follow at Maidenhead United on Wednesday, July 22, Real Sociedad at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Saturday, July 25, and Doncaster on Wednesday, July 29, before Port Vale visit in the Carabao Cup first round.
