Wolverhampton Wanderers have enquired about the availability of Tondela's Colombian defender Brayan Medina

Upon their return to the Championship, Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking for an immediate route back to the Premier League, and now under the management of Cesar Peixoto, will be hoping to provide their new head coach with some more key additions before the end of the window.

Wolves' pre-season is underway, as the Old Gold prepares for life back in the second tier for the first time in over eight years.

Cesar Peixoto has replaced Rob Edwards at the helm at Molineux in an unexpected appointment, as the 46-year-old former Gil Vicente boss looks to stamp his authority on his new side.

Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez were both signed prior to his arrival in the Black Country, as Comoron international Rafiki Said remains the only addition under his watch thus far, joining in a £7.7 million deal from Standard Liege.

However, that could change sooner rather than later, as Peixoto has since turned his head to his native Portugal in pursuit of defensive reinforcements.

As Peixoto targets an immediate Premier League return with Wolves, he will first have his eyes on fresh additions around the place.

With Trippier, Jimenez, and Said through the doors, Wolves supporters likely would have been hoping for a few more at this stage following relegation.

Indeed, more are expected through the Molineux doors in the coming weeks, as Tondela's Brayan Medina could be one of those on his way to the Black Country, as according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra via X, Wolves have enquired about the 24-year-old centre-back.

Medina has spent the bulk of his career playing in his native Colombia for the likes of America de Cali, Fortaleza CEIF, and Club Deportivo Atletico Huila, before making the move to Europe with Tondela last summer.

He made 25 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last season, predominantly on the left side of a back four, collecting nine yellow cards, and despite Tondela's subsequent relegation, Medina impressed, as the six-foot-three-inch defender looks to be on the move over the coming weeks.

Wolves have enquired about his services. However, so have Italian side Genoa and Greek side Olympiacos, as Wolves' route to obtaining the Colombian doesn't appear to be straightforward.

With the likes of Toti Gomes, Yerson Mosquera, Santiago Bueno, Ladislav Krejčí, and Nasser Djiga in their ranks, there remains a consensus that two or three of those may depart before the start of the season, as Medina's addition would allow those exits to be sanctioned.

Peixoto will know Medina well, with the Colombian playing the 90 minutes in Tondela's 1-0 victory away to Gil Vicente last campaign, and has seemingly made an impression on the 46-year-old.

No formal offer has been made yet, but one could arrive in the coming days, as Wolves face strong competition for Medina's services this summer.

This Wolves supporter would prefer the addition of someone like Max Alleyne from Manchester City instead of Medina, with Alleyne already having Championship experience under his belt.

With the aforementioned Gomes, Krejci, Djiga, Bueno, and Mosquera still at the club, Wolves are well-stocked when it comes to centre-backs, making this move puzzling unless exits in that department are on the horizon.

Indeed, Medina appears to be a direct replacement for one of Toti or Krejci on the left side of Wolves' defence if the move were to happen, but with no formal bids having been reported, the Old Gold's defensive options remain intact.
