Wolves have sacked head coach Rob Edwards and are set to appoint Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Edwards was informed on Thursday morning by phone while abroad on holiday, days after the club announced the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

It is understood the 43-year-old had been working on Wolves’ summer recruitment and was not expecting the decision. He was closely involved in Trippier’s arrival, and the player had cited Edwards’ passion as a reason for joining.

The club are now moving for Peixoto, who currently manages Portuguese side Gil Vicente. He is represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which has a close relationship with Wolves owners Fosun.

Peixoto, 46, would arrive having only ever managed within the Portuguese league system.
