Mateus Mane equalled a Cristiano Ronaldo benchmark after his long-range strike against Fulham, becoming only the second Portuguese teenager to score three Premier League goals from outside the box in a single season, after Ronaldo in 2003/04, both on three. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 18-year-old said it felt amazing to be mentioned alongside his boyhood idol.

He put Rob Edwards’ side in front midway through the first half, driving a right-footed effort from the edge past Bernd Leno. It was his third league goal of the campaign and his first in the competition since Everton in January.

Mane said he grew up watching Ronaldo and Neymar, and admired Ronaldo’s mentality. He added he would be telling everyone about the achievement.

With it being Wolves’ final outing at Molineux this season and their penultimate Premier League match before dropping to the Championship, his family watched from the stands.

He revealed he had promised them a goal before kick-off, and as the ball left his foot he knew it was going in.
