Wolves Women have lodged their application for promotion to the Women’s Super League 2 this season, following criticism over last year’s omission.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the club has submitted evidence to satisfy the WSL’s key minimum standards across governance, performance, facilities and long-term sustainability. The bid applies only if they secure promotion on the pitch.

The paperwork will be reviewed by a specialist selection panel, then put to the WSL Football Board for final consideration. Success also depends on Wolves proving their off-field operations while finishing top of the National League Northern Premier Division.

Wolves are second, four points behind leaders Burnley, and hold two games in hand. With the WSL expanding to 14 teams next season, a third-place play-off between the northern and southern runners-up could offer an alternative route to WSL 2.

Technical director Matt Jackson said the bid reflects extensive work across the club, praising staff at Compton Park and the ownership for their backing. He added that full-time women’s staff have been hired since last season and the club will support the team’s push for promotion through the run-in.

Last year players and fans condemned the failure to apply, with Wolves missing the title by three points and no play-off available. Promotion would have been blocked anyway after former chairman Jeff Shi opted not to submit an application, and players only learned of that after the final game.
