Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Nico Elvedi and FC Augsburg’s Fabian Rieder all start for Switzerland in their quarter-final tie against Argentina. However, Murat Yakin, who had a stint at Stuttgart in his playing days, will continue to do without Johan Manzambi as Freiburg’s Newcastle-bound midfielder suffered another injury setback.

It's the first World Cup quarter-final for Switzerland after they beat fellow CONMEBOL side Colombia on penalties in the Round of 16. Dortmund’s shot-stopper won the “Superior Player of the Match” for his flawless performance. 

Meanwhile, the holders had to dig deep to get past Cabe Verde and Egypt in the previous rounds, with Lionel Messi playing a starring role in both occasions. Bayer Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios is on the substitute bench once again. Similarly, five Bundesliga players are in Switzerland's substitute bench.
