Premier League clubs have been linked with the 20-year-old for a while now.

Pierce Charles' Sheffield Wednesday future isn't in the hands of Henrik Pedersen, but rather in the hands of the owner, Dejphon Chansiri, the manager has revealed.

Amid the cash crisis that the Owls have been going through over the last few months, a number of their top assets have had to be sold at a cut-price value in order to generate some level of funds.

Djeidi Gassama was sold to Rangers for just £2.2 million and has already shown what a loss he will be for Wednesday after scoring four goals in his first four competitive appearances under Russell Martin. Anthony Musaba was sold to Turkish side Samsunspor and teenage prodigy Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri was bought by Manchester City for £1.5 million.

This bleak road that the club have been on seems to be coming to an end. It was reported near the end of July, by The Star, that Wednesday were no longer actively looking to sell players.

In even better news, The Star also reported on Thursday that the club expect to pay off all their outstanding debts to their players, staff and other clubs in short order, which would then lift the embargoes currently imposed on the Owls by the EFL.

Pierce is one of the other high-value assets that they have avoided offloading. The 20-year-old Northern Irish international goalkeeper is hot property that has been monitored by a number of Premier League clubs.

The money used to pay off the outstanding debts are likely to come from solidarity payments from the Premier League, as per The Star, so financial issues could still loom over Hillsborough going forward.

If there comes a point where Wednesday are in need of money, and the transfer window is still open - it shuts on 1st September - Charles is the player that they could get the most money for.

In a potentially worrying claim, Pedersen, the new first-team boss, has said that any decision to sell the keeper will be made by Chansiri and not him.

"It's more tricky than something I control," the Danish manager told The Star. "In the end, the chairman is the owner of the club and in the end he will decide. I can tell him my wishes and of course I have a big, big wish that Pierce can stay.

"He's a fantastic goalkeeper and a fantastic human and he is a big part of how we want to play football in the future of Sheffield Wednesday. Of course I will do all I can for him to stay at the club."

Wednesday will still feel the lasting effects of this awful period for a long time to come. They're banned from paying fees for transfer or loans until the summer of 2027 because of the recent financial mess that Chansiri has put them through, all while maintaining his desire to receive a nine-figure fee from any sale of the club.

Whilst he is still in charge and ultimately unable to provide the money needed to run the club properly, the need for these flash sales will remain, and that only puts more doubt over the futures of Charles and others.

The only silver lining is that, given the Northern Irishman is the only 'senior' option between the sticks, the continuous chances he will get to show off his talents this season in a very slender Wednesday side should only increase his value.
