Liverpool boss Arne Slot continues to come under criticism for his team’s performance.
Their latest result is a 2-0 defeat against defending Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain who completely outplayed the Premier League side at Parc des Princes.
In a performance and tactical setup that surprised fans and pundits, Slot’s side were completely clueless and had no answer to Luis Enrique’s team.
Infact, it is a result that the Reds must be happy with considering the difference of quality between both the sides and considering how PSG could have easily won with a bigger margin.
The future of Slot is coming under scrutiny, unsurprisingly, and former Italy defender and World Cup winner Marco Materazzi has claimed that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca would be the ideal manager for the Merseyside club.
The former Italy defender was discussing the clubs Italian manager Maresca could join in the future.
Having departed Chelsea at the start of the year, he has been linked with a number of jobs.
The most high-profile one is the Manchester City job, where Maresca has been linked with replacing legendary manager Pep Guardiola.
Materazzi told Hajper, as reported by Metro:
‘He speaks very good Spanish because he was at Sevilla, but I think Maresca also has a good opportunity to get a job in the Premier League for next season too.
Newcastle United? Not for me. Manchester United would be a good move for Maresca but he’s too connected to Manchester City to make that happen.
Maresca would be an interesting choice to replace Slot at Anfield. The manager was impressive at Chelsea and helped them win silverware but his relationship with the board was not the best and that lead to his departure from Stamford Bridge.
The favourite to replace Slot at Liverpool remains former Reds fan favourite Xabi Alonso, who is currently a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid earlier in the season.
It has been widely reported that Alonso remains the club’s number one choice but nothing is certain at the moment.
Most managers would love to have a chance to manage Liverpool, considering their pedigree in European football and their illustrious history.
Maresca certainly knows the league well but if he is given the choice to manage Man City or Liverpool, he would most likely choose the former due to his past connection at the Etihad working as an assistant under Guardiola.
