The Red Dragons have been interested in bringing the 21-year-old back to the EFL from Stade Rennais this summer, but are facing competition from elsewhere to secure his services.

According to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page on Sunday, the Hollywood-owned side is now keen to see off any other bidders for James by outbidding their rivals.

Rennes are reportedly open to selling to the highest bidder, and Wrexham want to ensure that they get the better of Parma in the battle to sign the midfielder.

Nixon also reported that Wrexham's Championship rivals Ipswich Town are also interested in bringing the 21-year-old back to the United Kingdom, but the Welsh side are in the mood to see off any bidders.

Wrexham have been busy this summer with some exciting signings and a large net spend, which has certainly caught the eye of the rest of the Championship.

But, they are still hunting that elusive first league win of the season, after blowing a two-goal lead to draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

However, the Welsh club are seemingly far from done in the transfer market, and could be about to land a hugely exciting prospect in James to bolster their midfield options, according to Nixon.

The journalist reported on Sunday morning that the Red Dragons are keen to outbid Serie A side Parma and Championship rivals Ipswich to secure the services of the former Birmingham prodigy Jordan James, who has struggled to cement a place in Rennes' starting XI since arriving in France last summer.

Rennes are said to be happy to sell to the highest bidder this summer, and Wrexham are reportedly keen to ensure that it's them who win the race to bring the Welsh international back to the EFL.

Despite their failure to win in their opening three games of the Championship season, we've already seen that the newly-promoted side have absolutely no problem when it comes to competing with other second tier sides in the transfer market.

With highly sought-after players such as Josh Windass and Callum Doyle joining Wrexham this summer, when they had interest from elsewhere, shows exactly why the Welsh side have nothing to fear when competing in the market for James.

It seems Rennes are hoping that a bidding war will commence between interested parties, which will allow them to get the very best out of the deal, and the French side will be licking their lips at the prospect of this, especially with Wrexham involved.

Winning the race to sign James over other clubs such as Parma and Ipswich could be another huge statement for Wrexham as well - if anyone needs any more proof of their financial power - that could set them up for a Premier League push in the near future.

They will surely be hoping to use the fact that James is also Welsh to help sell their proposal to him over the likes of Parma and Ipswich Town, having already added Wales stars Nathan Broadhead, Danny Ward and Kieffer Moore to the squad this summer respectively.
