Wrexham are interested in Wolves’ right wing-back Pedro Lima, with the Premier League side ready to send the player out on loan this season.
There was a lot of excitement at Molineux when Wanderers beat BlueCo club Strasbourg to the signing of the Brazilian for a reported fee of £8.5m, who had been with Sport Recife in his home country.
However, with Lima having only just turned 19, patience was always going to be required with the defender, who made six appearances in all competitions for Wolves in the previous campaign.
Now, the Black Country outfit believe the best next step for the teenager is a loan move, with journalist Liam Keen revealing on the Express & Star Wolves’ podcast that Wrexham are keen on Lima.
He adds that Wolves are ready to sanction a loan, and the priority is to send Lima to a club in the English leagues to help with his development.
It's said that Wrexham have shown an interest in taking the player, although they state that there are other clubs in the EFL who are keeping tabs on his situation.
Lima penned a five-year contract at Molineux last summer, with Wolves also having the option of extending that by a further 12 months.
The obvious benefit of Wolves sending Lima to Wrexham is that they play in a similar way under Phil Parkinson, with a back three and wing-backs.
Even though Wolves fans haven’t seen much of Lima, the Brazil youth international has shown plenty of attacking quality in the games he has featured in, with the youngster boasting excellent delivery, and he always looks to get forward.
He registered an assist against Burnley in the League Cup with a superb cross for Goncalo Guedes, and he showed a willingness to contribute in the final third at every opportunity when he pulled on the Old Gold shirt.
Of course, there are areas of his game that he needs to improve, and the desire to send Lima to an English league shows that Wanderers want the Brazilian to adapt to the physical side of football in the UK.
Despite his talent, there would be doubts about whether Wrexham can guarantee Lima game time, as Ryan Barnett and Ryan Longman have both done very well for the club, and Wolves will be keen for their player to be on the pitch week in, week out.
So, it’s one to monitor, but it seems apparent that Lima will be leaving, and if he does end up at Wrexham, he could make a big contribution to Parkinson’s side with his quality down the right flank as they try to make their mark in the Championship.
