Wrexham AFC will play host to Swansea City tomorrow night, with the Red Dragons looking to continue their push for promotion.

The reverse fixture back in December saw Swansea pick up a 2-1 victory, thanks to a last minute winner from Adam Idah. That was the first meeting between the two for over twenty years, with the prior 31 matches seeing Wrexham come out with 16 wins. In fact, Wrexham were unbeaten in nine games against the Swans before December’s defeat.

The current league table would lend itself to a return to winning ways in this derby for the side from North Wales, especially in front of a home crowd. The Red Dragons currently sit in sixth place, occupying the final play-off position whilst Swansea find themselevs in 11th but only five points behind their opponent’s, meaning three points at The Racecourse Ground could potentially spark a play-off push of their own into life.

Both sides have attracted worldwide interest recently, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac owning Wrexham and taking them on an impressove journey over the last four years. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg recently became a co-owner and investor at Swansea, as the potential of a Premier League return reamains alive this season.

Wrexham have suffered back-to-back losses ahead of this one, as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea on Saturday after extra time, before losing 2-1 to 5th placed Hull City on Tuesday night upon their return to league action. Meanwhile, Swansea have put together back-to-back wins over the last week, beating Stoke City and Portsmouth to earn themselves some vital points.

However, Swansea boss Vitor Matos is keeping his focus firmly on the game at hand rather than getting entangled in play-off talk. “It will be a really hard game as we all know, quite emotional as well…it’s more about recovery, mindset and going there to compete.” His side have been one of the three worst three teams on the road this season, picking up just 17 points from 18 away games so far. The only sides with a worse record than them up to this point are West Brom and the already relegated Sheffield Wednesday. By contrast, Wrexham have been fairly strong at The Racecourse Ground this term having amassed 30 points from 19 outings in front of their home support, the ninth most of any team in the division.

The game will take place on Friday March 13th, and kick-off is scheduled for 8pm (UK time.)
