Ethan Galbraith has impressed during his first campaign with the South Wales outfit

Next season's Championship will see a three-way battle for Welsh supremacy commence, with all of Wrexham, Swansea City and Cardiff City battling it out after the Bluebirds were promoted in April.

Throughout the past eight months, it has been between the Red Dragons and Swans when it comes to seeing which four of the nation's EFL sides could emerge as the highest finishers, with the former coming mightily close to achieving a play-off berth in their first second tier season since 1982 under Phil Parkinson.

It has been well-documented that Wrexham are on a phenomenal upward trajectory under the vastly experienced figure's management, as well as the continued bankrolling of funds from Hollywood A-listers, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

A club-record transfer spend after their promotion from League One brought plenty of focus to the Stok Cae Ras, and they will be expected to go again once more in 2026/27 despite the stature of the three clubs that have been relegated from the Premier League, largely due to an increase in the number of sides who will be involved in the play-offs.

Indeed, another seventh-placed finish for Wrexham next term would see them involved in an initial 'eliminator' ahead of the customary play-off semi-finals, and the North Wales side are seemingly wasting little time when it comes to targeting reinforcements, with one name on their shortlist coming from one of their country rivals.

That's because, according to a fresh report from Wales Online, Parkinson's outfit are readying a potential move for the services of Swansea's versatile Northern Ireland international midfielder, Ethan Galbraith.

It has been an inconsistent past 12 months for the Jacks under Alan Sheehan and current head coach, Vitor Matos, but the same cannot be said largely about the performances of the 25-year-old, as well as the club's prized asset and Championship Golden Boot winner, Zan Vipotnik, who, himself, is attracting plenty of transfer discourse heading into the summer.

Galbraith was acquired by the South Wales outfit for a reported £1.5m from Leyton Orient last summer after a transfer battle with Charlton Athletic, and has since gone on to feature in 39 of the club's 46 league outings, scoring three times and posting two assists, as well as netting in the EFL Cup win over Crawley Town.

However, the aforementioned publication state that Wrexham's interest comes alongside that of unnamed Premier League sides amid a contract stand-off at the Swansea.Com Stadium.

It has been widely reported that, despite the fact he penned a three-year deal last July, the former Manchester United man and his representatives have rejected new terms as they are said to have fallen short in comparison to the earnings of the Swans' highest-paid players.

Meanwhile, claims have also emerged that another offer is yet to be put on the table from the Championship side heading into pre-season.

Last September, former Aston Villa midfielder and Sky Sports pundit, Lee Hendrie, exclusively told Football League World that the 14-time international was one of the Championship's most underrated performers, and those thoughts have very much been echoed by others across the season.

As a result, it may come as little surprise to some that the midfielder is wanting to financially better his career at this stage, which is where the attraction of Wrexham could play a huge role.

According to ESTIMATED figures from Capology, the Red Dragons were said to have the 12th-highest wage bill in the Championship for 2025/26 at £343,500, whilst Swansea's weekly figures came in at £281,500.

Galbraith, despite his overall impact, is said to take up just £10,000 of that figure per week, which is £15,000 less than the ESTIMATED earnings of top earners, Cameron Burgess and Adam Idah, who also joined the club last summer.
