Wrexham are considering a move for Sheffield Wednesday youngster Bailey Cadamarteri, who has plenty of rival interest from other Championship clubs.

According to Alan Nixon, the Red Dragons are weighing up joining the race to sign the forward as we approach the last days of the January transfer window.

The North Wales outfit are keen to bolster their first-team squad before Monday’s 7pm deadline, with Phil Parkinson's side firmly in the mix for a play-off place.

Cadamarteri’s future is subject to intense speculation due to Sheffield Wednesday’s financial difficulties, with James Bord's takeover still not approved yet by the EFL - that means that more departures before Monday's deadline could be a possibility.

Wrexham are the latest club to show an interest in signing Cadamarteri this January, with just a couple of days left until the market shuts.

Millwall and Blackburn Rovers have both already been linked with a move for the 20-year-old, but neither side have been able to convince the South Yorkshire outfit to cash in as it currently stands.

It was reported that Valerien Ismael’s side made an £800,000 bid for the forward, which was rejected, whilst Millwall only submitted a £300,000 offer for the Jamaica international, as per The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be holding out for as much money as possible at the moment as they look to ease their financial situation.

The Owls have been in administration since October, and are all but guaranteed to suffer relegation from the Championship this season.

Begbies Traynor were appointed to oversee the transition to new owners, but they are currently still in charge of all transfer negotiations for the time being whilst Bord seeks EFL approval.

Wrexham have been linked with a number of options this winter, but have yet to add any fresh faces to Phil Parkinson’s side yet ahead of Monday's deadline - the likes of Sammie Szmodics, Adam Armstrong and Sidiki Cherif have all been touted as potential additions at the Racecourse Ground.

Bailey Cadamarteri signing would be smart business for Wrexham

Wrexham adding an exciting young player like Cadamarteri to their ranks would be a smart bit of business to end the January window.

Cadamarteri has earned plenty of Championship experience now, playing over 50 times in the division for the struggling Sheffield Wednesday, even if he doesn't have the most prolific of goal records.

At 20, he also still has plenty of room to grow and develop into an even more exciting player, who could become a lot more valuable than his final sale price if he moves this window.

While he may not be as grand a signing as the speculation surrounding Wrexham’s interest in Sidiki Cherif, he could still prove a very promising addition to the squad in the long run - if they are going to beat the likes of Blackburn to his services.
