How you can watch Wrexham vs Chelsea on TV in the FA Cup fifth round

The Round of 16 of this season's FA Cup takes place this weekend, with plenty of mouthwatering ties going ahead.

None more so than in North Wales as Wrexham enter the fifth round for the first time in 29 years when they welcome Premier League giants and eight-time winners Chelsea to the Stok Cae Ras.

There have already been some memorable FA Cup nights at the Racecourse this season, with European side Nottingham Forest falling on penalties in round three, before fellow Championship promotion-hopefuls Ipswich Town were beaten in round four.

Meanwhile, Liam Rosenior's Chelsea outfit has blown by two second-tier sides already in the prior rounds, travelling to Charlton Athletic and Hull City and coming away with 5-1 and 4-0 wins, respectively, so they won't be taking this trip lightly at all, even with a trip to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on the cards four days later.

It's by far the biggest game that the Red Dragons have played since the Hollywood duo of Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds took over back in February 2021. All eyes will be on this one around the world, as the Championship outfit looks to stage a remarkable upset.

As expected, tickets for the game are sold out, so if you're not one of the lucky ones in attendance, here's how you can watch the game from the comfort of your own home.

How to watch Wrexham vs Chelsea

This season, the broadcast deal for the FA Cup underwent a slight change. Now, TNT Sports is the main broadcast provider of the oldest cup competition in the world, and only a handful of games are shown on free TV via the BBC.

However, this particular matchup, scheduled to kick off at 5:45pm on Saturday, 7 March, will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, alongside TNT Sports 2 and Discovery+.

To watch Wrexham take on Chelsea on the BBC, you will need a valid TV licence, which costs £174.50 for the year. This can be paid yearly, quarterly or monthly via direct debit online. There are discounts and concessions if you're aged 74 or over, blind, live in a care home or watch only on a black and white TV, and those are available online, too.

To watch this on TNT Sports, plus the other fifth-round ties that are exclusively broadcast on TNT, you will need to pay for a TNT Sports package with a Discovery+ membership, which costs £30.99 per month.

Wrexham will be looking to add an extra chapter to their Hollywood story against Chelsea

Currently, Wrexham are in the driver's seat in the race for sixth place in the Championship, which keeps their hopes of an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion on the cards from the National League to the Premier League.

Their story is well-known, and a win against Chelsea will be an upset that, while not of the magnitude of a lot of other upsets, will be talked about a lot when discussing the rise of Wrexham under the Mac and Reynolds ownership.

Not only would it see the Welsh side in the quarter-finals for only the fourth time in their history, it would also mark the first time the Blues had been knocked out by a non-Premier League side for the first time since Bradford City did it in 2015.

Evidently, the main focus this season will be to try and tick off that fourth promotion to the top flight, but if they can pick up a win against Chelsea en route to doing so, it would be the cherry on top of the proverbial cake.

And perhaps, if the two sides meet next season in league action, Wrexham can then go into it knowing that they won the latest match-up between them.
