It will be no surprise to Wycombe Wanderers supporters that Matty Godden haunted them in the League One play-offs.

Wycombe Wanderers supporters won't be surprised that Matty Godden was the man to put them to the sword in the League One play-off semi-finals for Charlton Athletic.

Wanderers have been haunted by many strikers over the years; first Jordan Rhodes, then Danny Hylton, and now it seems Godden is the latest name to add to the list of forwards that seem to always score against the Chairboys.

The 33-year-old's 81st-minute winner broke Wycombe hearts and sent his Charlton Athletic side marching down Wembley Way, capping off a bitterly disappointing end to the season for Mike Dodds' side.

Godden has a highly impressive record against the Buckinghamshire outfit, and is continuing to roll back the years with some excellent displays for the Addicks.

With that in mind, it must've been no surprise to Wanderers supporters that the former Coventry City striker was the man that shattered their promotion dreams this season.

When you look back on the last 15 years as a Wycombe supporter, there are only a select few players whose names would strike fear and dread into you when their name was on the opposing team sheet.

The first one of these is Rhodes, who scored five goals in one game against the Chairboys in January 2012, and 11 in 11 appearances against the club.

Hylton then became the next who loved a goal against the Buckinghamshire club. The rivalry between him and the Wanderers faithful blossomed after he scored a hat-trick for Luton Town against Wycombe in 2016.

Now, Hylton's current Charlton team-mate has seemingly become the latest striker to impose a sense of dread whenever Wycombe play against him after ending the Buckinghamshire outfit's season.

Six years later, Godden would haunt the Chairboys once again. He scored in a 4-0 drubbing at Adams Park following a goalkeeping error by Will Norris, and would go on to score a season-ending goal at The Valley to send Charlton to Wembley at the expense of Wycombe.

It really came as no shock to see the veteran striker pop up with the winning goal in the play-off semi-final, which brought one of the best seasons in Wycombe's history to a dismal end.

If you asked Wanderers supporters who they most feared going into the two-legged affair with Charlton, most of them would've likely touted Godden as the man who could make the difference.

Every club has a bogey team or bogey players who always seem to get a result or score goals against them, and the 33-year-old is certainly that for Wycombe.

Plenty of fans will have memories of Rhodes smashing in goals against the Blues, and whilst Godden hasn't been as prolific, he seems to haunt the Chairboys every time he faces them.

With two goals against them this season, Wycombe will be hoping that they can escape playing against the Charlton attacker next season, as once again it would be a shock to see him on the scoresheet.
