According to journalist Antonio Romero, speaking on El Larguero (via AS), it seems that Xabi Alonso is not seeing Rodrygo as a key part of his plans at Real Madrid.
Romero’s update suggests that, in Alonso’s mind, Rodrygo is the last name among his top attacking options. This news comes at a worrying time for the Brazilian forward, who has been struggling to find his best form lately.
His recent performances have raised doubts about his role in the team, especially as rumours about a possible sale continue to swirl.
It is to be noted that the FIFA Club World Cup has been a chance for players like Gonzalo Garcia to step up and impress the coaching staff. However, Rodrygo has found it tough to make an impact.
Critics have pointed out Rodrygo’s lack of sharpness, and this has only added fuel to talks about him possibly leaving the club if a good offer comes in during the summer.

To make matters even trickier for Rodrygo, Kylian Mbappe is back after recovering from a bout of gastroenteritis.
The French superstar’s return will force changes in the starting eleven, sending Garcia, who has been starting, back to the bench.
However, reports suggest that even then, Garcia is still ahead of Rodrygo in the pecking order. This leaves Rodrygo’s situation even more complicated as he now has to fight harder for minutes on the pitch.
Even though Alonso has publicly backed Rodrygo by saying, “He’s still important and we’re going to need him at the World Cup; he’s a special player,” it is becoming clear that Real Madrid’s trust in him is not as strong as before.
With a long summer transfer window ahead, there is a growing chance that Rodrygo could be sold if a tempting offer comes Real Madrid’s way.
