Geovany Quenda is set to take part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Asia, following a positive update on his injury.

The 19-year-old was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season squad that travelled to Australia on Friday due to an unspecified minor injury, alongside Emmanuel Emegha, who is also nursing a muscle issue.

Quenda, however, has since posted a picture of himself on an exercise bike on social media, suggesting that he is close to recovery.

The former Sporting winger is also expected to join the Chelsea squad for the latter part of the pre-season tour in Asia.

This means Quenda will likely be available for Chelsea’s friendly match against Juventus at Kai Tak Stadium, Hong Kong, on Wednesday, August 5, at the earliest.

He will also have to miss the first two matches of the tour in Australia, against Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28 and Tottenham Hotspur on August 1, both at Accor Stadium.

Having arrived from Chelsea this summer after a pre-agreed deal in 2025, Quenda must be keen to prove himself to new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, and the injury is obviously far from ideal.

That said, he will still have plenty of time to impress before the season starts.

Chelsea will play three matches in Asia, specifically Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and another pre-season friendly back at home at Stamford Bridge against La Liga side Real Sociedad on August 15.

Emegha is not as lucky

Fellow summer arrival Emegha, on the other hand, is expected to miss the entire pre-season tour.

He is expected to be back before Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 24.

However, his pre-season absence may still hurt his chances amid fierce competition for spots in the team.

The former Strasbourg captain is competing with the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Marc Guiu and maybe even the young Dastan Satpayev for the number nine spot.

Given that Chelsea will be without European football this season, some of these striker options will realistically have to be left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

Another Chelsea summer signing who also remains absent from the pre-season is Morgan Rogers, who is on an extended break due to his involvement at the 2026 World Cup.
