After winning three of their opening four Bundesliga games, Bayer Leverkusen have won just one of their last six. Last weekend’s 1-1 draw is their third successive draw in the league which leaves them nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 10 games.
But despite recent results, Aleix Garcia, who joined from Girona for €18m in the summer, is confident that Bayer can turn their results around. “We have to correct our mistakes, but the team has confidence, we are absolutely confident,” said the Spaniard.
With several players of the team away on international duty, the result against Bochum is yet to be analysed. “When all the players return from the international break, we will talk together. We will try to correct these mistakes, and I think that Xabi [Alonso] is a good coach and will find a solution,” added the 27-year-old.
As noted by kicker, Bayer Leverkusen have dropped 11 points after taking the lead in the Bundesliga this season.
“We need a strong mentality now,” said Garcia. “Of course we are now nine points behind Bayern, but the season is long, and I believe that we can improve. We have a lot of quality in this team and will fight for everything.”
Upon returning after the international break, Bayer Leverkusen have home games against Heidenheim, St. Pauli and Freiburg and have trips to Union Berlin and Augsburg to see out the year.
