Xavi Simons reportedly wants a move to the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Chelsea interested in signing the RB Leipzig star in the summer transfer window.
The attacking midfielder told the German outfit of his intention to leave the club in May following their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Simons only joined Leipzig on a permanent basis from PSG in a deal worth up to €81 million in January, signing a contract until 2027. He had spent the previous season and a half on loan at the Red Bull Arena.
The 22-year-old is “keen” on joining a Premier League club, with both Arsenal and Chelsea putting the player “on their radar”, reports Ben Jacobs. German outlet BILD have made similar claims.
Leipzig have not received any approaches or official bids as of yet, but it’s claimed that he could “realistically” go for a transfer fee of €65m plus add-ons.
Die Roten Bullen paid an initial fee of €50m to PSG in January, with the other €31m coming in potential bonuses, although not all of the add-ons have been triggered. Paris also inserted a sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they will receive a percentage of any future transfer.
Arsenal are longtime admirers of Xavi Simons having been linked with the Netherlands international last summer. If they were to sign him, it would presumably end their pursuit of Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze.
Simons has impressed during his two years at Leipzig, registering 18 goals and 17 assists in 57 Bundesliga starts. He also helped the side win the DFB-Supercup in 2023, beating Bayern Munich 3-0 in the final.
