The Dutch midfielder has joined German club RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer.
Born in Amsterdam on 21 April 2003, Xavi Simons signed his first professional contract when he arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019 from FC Barcelona. He made his first-team debut for PSG in February 2021, in a Coupe de France match against SM Caen.
In July 2022, after making 11 appearances in all competitions and providing one assist for Les Rouge et Bleu, the Dutch attacking midfielder signed for PSV Eindhoven. He had an exceptional season with the Dutch club, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 matches. He was joint top scorer in the Eredivisie with 19 goals, and won both the Dutch Supercup and the Dutch Cup.
Following his return to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2023 summer transfer window, the 21-year-old right-footer moved to Germany, where he joined RB Leipzig on loan. In the Bundesliga, he confirmed his excellent form, notching ten goals and 15 assists in all competitions in 2023-2024, also making his Champions League debut (two goals) as Leipzig reached the last 16.
Once again on loan to the German club in the 2024-2025 season, Xavi Simons continued to progress. He has made a total of 16 appearances in all competitions so far this season, including four in the Champions League, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
Simons' fine performances have also earned him a place in the Dutch national team, and he celebrated his first cap against the USA in the Round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With the Netherlands, he now has 24 appearances and three goals to his name, including one in the semi-final of UEFA Euro 2024, which the Dutch lost to England.
Paris Saint-Germain wishes Xavi Simons every success in his new colours.
