The round of 16 of the Copa del Rey saw the recently crowned Spanish Super Cup champions Barcelona lock horns against Real Betis and the team could not have produced a more clinical win.

Hansi Flick rotated his starting lineup moderately and ensured most key players were taken off relatively early in the game, yet managed to take home a win with five goals scored.

Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Jules Kounde, Ferran Torres and Gavi all got on the scoresheet for the Catalans as they dominantly cruised past Manuel Pellegrini’s men to the quarterfinals. The opponents’ only consolation was a late penalty by Vitor Roque.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 5-1 Real Betis.

Inaki Pena: 8

The Spanish goalkeeper had no role to play in the opening 45 minutes of the game as Betis barely touched the ball in the Barcelona area.

Was forced into action in extra time after the first half and made an outrageous save to retain the team’s 2-0 lead.

Beyond his shot-stopping, Pena showed great improvement in his runs out of the box and ball-playing.

Gerard Martin: 7

A neutral performance from the backup left-back who came in as Alejandro Balde’s stand-in for the night.

Martin covered a lot of ground on the left, regularly made runs wide down the left and was reasonable with his distribution.

Pau Cubarsi: 8

The teenage defender had a sensational performance against Real Betis, displaying elite ball-playing skills while not compromising one bit on his defensive quality.

Came up with some stunning interceptions to deny the visitors in the second.

Ronald Araujo: 8

The captain made his first major start of the season against Real Betis and looked sharp across facets of his game.

Showed no signs of rust, kicked the ball around with authority and accuracy and defended in his trademark no-nonsense style giving the visitors little to no hope in attack.

Jules Kounde: 9

The Frenchman was a bit special at Montjuic last night as he formed a significant threat down the right alongside Yamal.

Teed up with the youngster to score an audacious volley for Barcelona’s second and then produced another audacious finish in the dying seconds of the opening half. Unfortunately, the second goal was ruled out for a marginal offside.

Conceded a penalty for a light foul late in the game.

Pedri: 8.5

Pedri looked ever so comfortable on the ball and settled well into the role as a pivot even without Marc Casado. Took up more defensive responsibility and stuck deep, yet managed to orchestrate play and thread balls through the Real Betis lines.

Frenkie de Jong: 7.5

The Dutchman started against Real Betis and was largely decent in the middle of the park.

Completed the double-pivot alongside Pedri and also held back on his positioning, staying deep to prevent counter-attacks.

Was accurate with his distribution and did not produce anything too flashy in terms of his passing.

Gavi: 9

Playing as the third midfielder, Gavi was given more attacking freedom and enjoyed his role on the field with Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal nearby.

Was an integral part of Barcelona’s play in the box with his one-touch passes and made intelligent runs behind the defence.

Scored the team’s opener in just the 3rd minute with a lovely touch and finish past the goalkeeper.

Dani Olmo: 9

Playing Olmo as a false nine was Flick’s biggest tactical tweak on the night and it worked like a charm, so much so that the manager may well opt to deploy it more regularly.

Olmo’s central positioning made him a technical replacement for Robert Lewandowski but he stuck outside the box and aided in the buildup to pull defenders and open up spaces in the box.

It was in that exact manner that he provided the assist for Gavi’s opener. Earned a second assist for Ferran Torres’ goal in the 66th minute with a lovely ball over the top.

Lamine Yamal: 9.5

A largely positive game even by Yamal’s astronomical standards as he started on the right and created a threat every time he got on the ball. Did not involve too much in the build but produced magic whenever called on.

Unfairly had a goal disallowed in the second half for a pass that happened 21 seconds before his goal and instantly hit back, pioneering a run into the Betis area and creating the third goal for the team.

Eventually got his goal on the night as well with a well-worked finish in the team’s fifth of the game.

Raphinha: 9

The Brazilian had a relatively silent first half as he played further away from the goal on the left flank for a greater part of the half.

Played more centrally in the second period and scored Barcelona’s third goal, pouncing off a rebound off Lamine Yamal’s shot.

Ferran Torres: 7.5

Scored the team’s fourth goal with a stunning volley within minutes of coming on to seal the game and result beyond doubt.
