Birmingham City boss Chris Davies thinks that Lyndon Dykes’ goal against Fulham Under-21s was much needed for the Blues striker.

The west Midlands outfit are keen on getting back to the Championship this season and they signed Dykes from QPR to add experience and quality to their attacking department.

However, Dykes has failed to get going at Birmingham since his arrival and on Tuesday he finally scored his first goal for the club against Fulham Under-21s in their EFL Trophy fixture.

Davies believes that Dykes, despite failing to score in the previous games, has contributed for the team but admitted that the player was in need of a goal.

The Birmingham boss also pointed out that the forward’s reaction to his goal against Fulham explains how much he wanted that goal and added that he is really pleased to see Dykes find his shooting boots.

“I think you can tell from the response from the fans and from Lyndon as well that he wanted that and needed that goal because he has come on in a lot of games and he has contributed when we are sort of seeing a game out, or even at the weekend when he was a real presence in the game”, Davies told Blues TV.

“But goalscorers, they thrive off goals, so I was really, really happy for all his hard work and that he has managed to get a goal.”

Birmingham are up against Sutton United in an FA Cup fixture next and Dykes will be hoping to continue his form in front of goal if given the opportunity.
