Chelsea fought off interest from multiple clubs last summer to sign Delap for £30m after Ipswich got relegated, but things haven’t gone to plan.
Delap has struggled and has only scored two goals in 25 appearances in all competitions, and is playing second fiddle to the in form Joao Pedro.
Delap has struggled with injury problems, but when he has played he’s simply not been at the level he or Chelsea would have expected.
Jamie Carragher thinks joining Chelsea was too big a step for Delap, and on the current evidence it’s hard to argue against that.

Delap has struggled for large parts of the season.
Rosenior believes Delap will improve massively next season, and Deeney has suggested an interesting solution to help get him back to his best.
“You’re not going to like this bit, but I would really, if I were Liam Rosenior, do you know what I would do or coach? I’d pull Delap into a room the next day, and I’d have all the clips of Flemming,” he told The Football Exchange.
“Every clip that Flemming did, I’d go, “Do you remember when you used to play like this? Do you remember that?” Like when you used to be physical, you used to be that.
“Not showing off for the crowd, not now trying to barge people into the stadium, like actually be physical, but to a point where it helps the team.
“And I’ll just go, can we get you back to that because you’re not going to be a better footballer in this short amount of time. That’ll come in preseason. We’ll get you to that part.”
Delap hasn’t got long to find his feet because more competition in the shape of Emmanuel Emegha will arrive n the summer.
