Corinthians forward Yuri Alberto, an ex-Menino da Vila with a prolific record against Santos, is in the final stages of recovery from a grade two left hamstring injury. He is not expected to be available for Sunday’s derby at Vila Belmiro in round six of Serie A.
He sustained the issue to the biceps femoris in his left thigh on 15 February, during Corinthians’ win over São Bernardo in the Paulista group phase.
“I am in the final phase of readaptation and, from next week, I can be available again, if I am not mistaken, against Chapecoense on Thursday.” He told TV Vanguarda on Friday during a basketball game in the city.
Raised at Santos, he has tended to thrive against his former club, with eight goals in 13 official meetings, an average of 0.75 per game. Seven of those came in eight appearances for Corinthians, with one earlier for Internacional.
He left Santos in 2020 for Internacional, moved to Zenit in Russia, then returned to Brazil in 2022 to join Corinthians. In 2026 he has already faced Santos once, scoring in a 1-1 draw at Vila Belmiro in the Paulista, where Gabigol netted for the hosts.
If he does sit out on Sunday, Santos supporters may take heart with no ‘carrasco’ presence and the familiar law of the ex on hold.
