Corinthians open the 2026 Brasileirão against Bahia at Vila Belmiro on Wednesday at 20:00.
Meu Timao notes that the occasion carries a personal subplot for Yuri Alberto.
The forward has scored in consecutive games for the first time since October last year. On Thursday at Santos he missed a penalty, then reacted quickest to sweep in a low opener.
On Sunday against Velo Clube, he came on late and turned in a stoppage-time rebound to clinch a 1-0 win.
If he scores against Bahia, he would match a run last seen at the end of 2024, when he hit 10 in eight and helped lift Corinthians out of the relegation zone and into the next year’s Libertadores qualifying phase.
That spell also featured a hat-trick against Racing in the Sudamericana semi-final despite elimination, plus seven goals across the final six league rounds against Palmeiras, Vitória, Cruzeiro, Criciúma, Bahia and Grêmio.
In 2025, across 58 appearances, he managed three two-game streaks, in February against Palmeiras and Santos in the Paulistão, in May in the Clássico Alvinegro in the league and against Novorizontino in the Copa do Brasil, and between September and October against Flamengo and Mirassol in the league.
Corinthians’ leading scorer in 2026, he is also their top marksman of the 21st century and the record scorer at Neo Química Arena with 49 goals. His contract runs until 22 July 2030.
