Zaidu is a doubt for Wednesday’s clash with Sporting, which will decide who reaches the Taça de Portugal final, after hurting his right ankle against Tondela.
He left that match early, an issue head coach Francesco Farioli initially downplayed as cramp and fatigue. According to O Jogo, tests on Monday revealed a low-grade sprain of the right ankle and he will be re-assessed this morning at Olival to determine his availability.
Martim Fernandes has stepped up to a modified session and is expected to be available on Wednesday night. The full-back can operate on either flank, including covering on the left if Zaidu is not passed fit. Moura and Pablo Rosario are also options.
Against Tondela, Pablo Rosario filled in on the left while Moura was among the substitutes. If that was to manage Alberto Costa’s workload, Martim could return to his natural side.
A few hours after the win over Tondela, which moved FC Porto closer to the title, the squad returned to Olival for the first of only two sessions to prepare for Sporting. The second takes place this morning, before Farioli’s press conference.
The tie is scheduled for Wednesday at 20:45 on RTP1. Luuk de Jong, Samu and Nehuén Pérez are ruled out.
