Nürnberg enter 2026/27 on an upward curve under Miroslav Klose after finishing eighth and extending his contract to 2028. According to BuLi News, a busy window and unbeaten pre-season have raised hopes of pushing higher in the 2. Bundesliga.
The defence has been reworked. Henri Koudossou, Fabio Gruber and Luka Lochoshivili have gone, with centre-backs Alexios Karogelopolous and Fynn Otto arriving on free transfers, and Senegal’s Mikayil Faye joining on a one-year loan from Stade Rennais.
Up front, Rayan Ghrieb has signed from Magdeburg for €600k and Can Moustfa from Cottbus for an undisclosed fee. Both add experience from the lower tiers and shared three pre-season goals.
Pre-season brought four wins and a draw. Nürnberg routed TSV Kornburg 10-0 and beat SpVgg Ansbach 5-1, then came from 2-1 down on 64 minutes to defeat Waldhof Mannheim 3-2 thanks to substitute Pete Scobel.
A Mohamed Ali Zoma brace set up a 2-2 draw with Palermo, before early goals from Zoma and Scobel beat Real Oviedo despite red cards for Tim Janisch and Adam Markhiev.
The predicted shape is 4-2-3-1: Jan Reichert, Janisch, Karogelopolous, Otto, Eric Porstner, Markhiev, Fernández, Justvan, Finn Ole Becker, Lubach, Zoma, with Faye an option when ready and Scobel pushing to start or impact from the bench. Automatic promotion may be a stretch, yet a third-place play-off tilt could be possible, and a top-six finish looks attainable if momentum holds.
