Despite being 37 years of age, FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is still performing at a very high level this season. The Polish forward has scored 8 goals and provided one assist in only 12 La Liga appearances and has been an important figure for Hansi Flick whenever he has been fully fit.
However, Lewandowski is in the final year of his contract, and this, combined with his age, makes his long-term future at the Catalan club uncertain. According to MARCA, Barcelona have not yet made a definitive decision about what will happen beyond the current campaign.
Even so, the club is not ruling out the possibility of keeping him for one more season if he maintains the level he has shown in the opening months of the 2025-26 season.
Last summer, Lewandowski triggered an automatic one-year renewal after meeting the required number of appearances set out in his contract. That clause no longer exists, and any extension this time will depend entirely on his performances and on the overall planning of the sporting department.
For the moment, Deco has placed the matter on hold. He explained earlier this week that it is still too early to decide whether the striker will continue after June, although Barcelona are satisfied with his output so far.
There have also been moments during the first stretch of the campaign when Lewandowski was not the automatic starter. Ferran Torres briefly overshadowed him at the beginning of the season, and injuries disrupted the €10 million-rated Polish forward during certain periods.
Now fully recovered, he has regained his place in the team and has started five consecutive matches across all competitions. His current form and the trust placed in him by Flick will play a major part in determining whether he remains at the club next season.
For now, Lewandowski continues to be an important presence for Barcelona, but the decision about his future will depend on how he performs between now and the end of the season.
