Wanda Metropolitano played host to an enthralling display between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side prevailing after a controversial penalty shootout.

The first half was not what the Merengues would have wanted, having their lead canceled out and a disappointing display from the side as a whole.

In such a high-intensity fixture, Ancelotti entrusted Fede Valverde with the reigns at right back, as the Uruguayan had displayed his supremacy at that position multiple times earlier this season.

Surprisingly, Valverde was also one of the players who struggled, with Julian Alvarez causing him trouble down that wing but the Argentinian did not avail his chances.

The second half saw an improved display as the Italian manager shifted Valverde in the midfield alongside Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, with Lucas Vazquez shifting to the Uruguayan’s position.

Although not well received by most fans during the match, Valverde was an entirely different beast and combined well with the French and Englishman – even though the scoreline remained the same.

The 26-year-old showed no signs of slowing down even in extra time, going in for every last-ditch tackle and contributing on the attacking front as well.

According to Sofascore statistics, Valverde had the most touches in the entire match (142) and completed an outstanding 113/122 passes, including a key pass. Plus, the 7/8 accurate long balls showed his precision perfectly.

Defensively, he was an absolute menace, making 5 clearances, a couple of interceptions and tackles each, and alsoblocking 1 shot.

To sum up such a perfect performance, Valverde shot his penalty with power and Jan Oblak was unable to make a save even though the Slovenian went the right way.

These matches are evidence of why Fede Valverde is regarded as arguably the most complete player in the world, as he has no issues playing as a pivot, central midfielder, winger, or right-back.

The South American was 60% fit in the 1st leg and, Rodrygo after full-time commented how well Fede Valverde could play if he was fully fit – well, the answer is in front of us after the culmination of this tie.

If Los Blancos are to head out of the Emirates with a victory against Arsenal in the 1st leg, Valverde would be eager to showcase his all-round prowess yet again.
