France’s interior minister Laurent Nunez said on CNews and Europe 1 that 127 people were arrested across greater Paris on Wednesday night after PSG reached the Champions League final.

PSG drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich, having won the first leg 5-4, to knock the Germans out. The result triggered evening tensions in the capital.

Of those, 107 were in Paris, and 11 people were injured, one seriously by a firework mortar. The minister issued a strong condemnation. Twenty-three police officers sustained minor injuries.

He praised the police response and promised a large-scale security operation on 30 May, when PSG face Arsenal in the final. He warned that officers would show the same firmness, with systematic interventions and no tolerance for disorder.

The minister also raised concern at what he called a unilateral announcement by the Paris mayor Emmanuel Grégoire (PS) to set up a fan zone that night. Such decisions are usually discussed with the police prefect first, and the location still needs to be settled.

The final will be played in Budapest, with kick-off at 18:00 rather than 21:00.
