The Welsh outfit will be aiming to bridge that gap by making improvements to the first team squad during the summer transfer window.

However, player sales could also play a role in their upcoming business, with offers likely to arrive.

The Bluebirds will be looking to balance sales and new arrivals so that they can push on and compete for a top six finish next season.

Rubin Colwill transfer claim made

FLW’s Cardiff fan pundit Ben Johnsey believes that Perry Ng will be the big-money sale this summer, if one comes to fruition, with Bulut previously admitting bids are expected.

However, he has highlighted Rubin Colwill as the Bluebirds' player with the potential to command the biggest potential sale in the future.

“I think the player that will command the highest transfer fee is Rubin Colwill,” Johnsey told Football League World.

“While Perry Ng is probably a player that is going to be the hottest prospect in terms of moving this summer for a large fee, maybe for £6 to 8 million, I think Colwill, if given another year, and signing a new deal, if he continues to go on as he is, I can see him getting at least £15m to £20m, and really showing the Championship the brilliant young player that he is.

“He was slightly delayed due to growing pains and different injuries that he had, and just changes in manager at the club, but he is really coming into his own now.

“He’s a top quality player, and still a young age.

“It’s definitely going to be one that will likely command a very big fee to take away from the club.”

Rubin Colwill’s importance to Cardiff City

Colwill enjoyed a promising campaign for Cardiff last season, featuring 36 times in the Championship as the team came 12th in the table.

He contributed one goal and two assists from 14 starts, earning regular game time in Bulut’s side.

This was a much-improved year for the 22-year-old, who struggled in the previous term due to various setbacks like injury.

Colwill’s contract with Cardiff runs until the summer of 2027, so he will be aiming to cement himself even further as a key part of the team going into the 2024/25 season.

Colwill has shown a lot of potential

Colwill returned to form in the last campaign, having really burst onto the scene as an important part of the squad during 2021/22.

The midfielder needs to remain fit and continue developing and he will surely become a key part of Bulut’s plans.

Having a homegrown player in the squad with this potential is very exciting for the club and its supporters.

If he can continue to improve, then that would go a long way to helping Cardiff compete for a play-off place next year.
