Arsenal continued their Premier League winning run with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners lacked cohesion with their attacking play during the opening half, but managed to step up following the interval.
Ethan Nwaneri was exceptional from the right wing while Mikel Merino made the difference off the bench as a makeshift striker.
Merino broke the deadlock with a header in the 81st minute from a Nwaneri cross. He doubled the Gunners lead six minutes later from a Leandro Trossard assist from the left wing.
Despite the good result, manager Mikel Arteta must make a major change in the final third by dropping Raheem Sterling after his poor performance from the left wing.
Sterling got the nod in the position against the Foxes with the ongoing attacking injury crisis. However, his display was pretty poor as he failed to make any meaningful impact.
The Chelsea loanee did not come close to scoring and won just one out of six duels attempted. He failed to complete any dribble or cross and also lost possession on 13 occasions.
Sterling was also caught offside twice despite having a clear sight of Leicester’s defensive line. He received a 3/10 rating from football.london for his showing.
Arsenal looked a much better attacking force after Sterling’s substitution in the 69th minute. Trossard, who started upfront moved to the left wing with substitute Merino leading the line.
The Gunners take on West Ham United in a Premier League derby at the Emirates Stadium next weekend. Arteta should utilise Merino upfront after his goalscoring heroics with Trossard and Nwaneri starting either side.
