Leeds United are showing an interest in Venezia striker Joel Pohjanpalo as they look for a goalscorer, according to reports.
The Yorkshire side are still looking at a number of reinforcements after allowing nine players to leave Elland Road this summer.
They have invested some money in the signings of Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram but Leeds fans will be expecting a lot more from their new owners.
And now Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb claims that Venezia striker Pohjanpalo is ‘tempting’ Leeds with clubs in Italy and elsewhere also interested in signing the Finland international.
Pohjanpalo joined Venezia from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen last summer with the 28-year-old impressing with 19 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances for the Serie B outfit.
West Ham, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers are all rumoured to be interested in the striker with two years remaining on his contract in italy.
A separate report from Football Insider has identified Coventry City star Gus Hamer as a potential target for Leeds with the Yorkshire side ‘monitoring the situation’.
The Sky Blues ‘are reluctant to sell’ but, with Hamer in the final year of his contract, they could consider a sale this summer if the price was right.
Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Man City’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis – with the latter spending last season on loan at Burnley in the Championship – are also ‘potential targets’ as they look to sign a new centre-back and Leeds are ‘hoping to tempt one of them to Elland Road for a promotion push’.
Leeds found themselves 2-0 down against Cardiff City in their first match back in the Championship on Sunday but second-half goals from Liam Cooper and Crysencio Summerville rescued a 2-2 draw.
However, despite Summerville’s last-gasp equaliser, Farke was still “really disappointed” by the result as it was a “scandal” that they didn’t win over the course of the 90 minutes.
“To be honest I’m really disappointed in the end,” said Farke after the 2-2 draw. “When you judge the game in an obvious way, by looking at the statistics, it’s a scandal that we didn’t win the game.
“In the second half in particular, there was only one team playing and chasing for everything. It was looking like a power play at times, but we just couldn’t get the second goal we were looking for.
“I just have to praise and compliment the lads, though. They’ve all put in a terrific shift. For us to go and equalise in the 95th minute after taking so many things in the neck, well, that just shows the character out there.
“It was a really important point for the confidence and the spirit, and we have to move on to the next game positively.”
