Marc Guiu has been one of the more notable forwards produced by La Masia in the last few years. Even though he did not get to spend a lot of time with the first team, he was still able to make himself known with some memorable performances while playing under Xavi Hernandez.
Last year, he decided to bid farewell to the Catalan club as he joined the Premier League side Chelsea. With the Blues, he has already won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup titles.
As SPORT has reported, Guiu recently appeared in an interview with a Spanish outlet and spoke about his decision to leave Barcelona. The striker conceded that this was a difficult decision, but went on to explain why he took it:
“I don’t regret leaving Barça. I left because I thought it was best for my career, and now what I have to do is enjoy the Premier League. It was a difficult decision; Barça gave me everything, it was my home.”
“There were many forwards, and they couldn’t guarantee me a spot in the first team, so I think I chose the best option. Maresca called me and told me he trusted me and that the sporting project was incredible.”
Last season, Guiu played 16 matches, helping Chelsea win the Conference League with six goals and claiming the Club World Cup.
He also spent part of the summer on loan at Sunderland, where he enjoyed a memorable stint with passionate fans. However, after an injury to Liam Delap, Chelsea recalled him.
“This summer, we talked with Chelsea because I wanted to get minutes. I arrived at Sunderland very excited; the fans were incredible, some of the best I’ve ever seen. I felt very comfortable, but after Liam Delap’s injury, they asked me to come back. I’m a Chelsea player, so that’s where I go.”
The young forward went on to reveal that he did not have any extensive talks with Hansi Flick before leaving Barcelona:
“I didn’t get to talk to Flick; he sent me a few messages while we were playing the playoff. I don’t know what would have happened if Xavi had stayed, but since he didn’t, I don’t want to think about it.”

Guiu will be playing against Barcelona in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League this season, and he admitted that this will be a special match for him:
“It will be a special game, the game of my life. Hopefully, I can get some minutes.”
There is no doubt that this will be a special match between the two sides that have already played in some memorable European matches over the years. Hopefully, Marc Guiu will be able to showcase his talents in this game and maybe secure a move back to Barcelona in the future.
