Greuther Fürth and Magdeburg will resume their titanic battles on Friday as both sides are eager to go into the international break with three points. Last season’s games between the sides produced 5-4 wins for the away side on both occasions.
After four successive draws, the head-to-head between them became one of the standout fixtures this time around because of the endless drama with 18 goals in just two games.
Coincidentally, there were 18 goals each so far in the games of both teams in the first five rounds of the new season. Fürth’s only win of the season came away at newly-promoted Energie Cottbus, while Magdeburg responded well to starting the campaign with a 6-1 home defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig.
Petrik Sander’s side have only dropped points to league leaders Hertha BSC since their false start. The visitors could even climb to the top three before Heidenheim’s game in Bielefeld on Sunday. Fürth are the only 2. Bundesliga team yet to pick up a home point this season.
Team News
Shinta Appelkamp could return for the hosts after missing the last couple of games due to a muscle injury. Tobias Müller will most likely return to the lineup after missing the 3-0 win over Kaiserslautern due to suspension.
